What is the story about?
Are you a registered voter and preparing to cast your vote in Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23? But do you know whether your name is listed in the Voter ID, also known as EPIC, list? If not, know how to register online.
To apply for Voter ID card in Tamil Nadu, the applicant must:
- Be an Indian citizen
- Be 18 years or older as on the qualifying date
- Be ordinarily residing in Tamil Nadu
- Not be enrolled as a voter in another constituency
- Documents Required for Voter ID Registration in Tamil Nadu
- Applicants must upload or submit valid documents while submitting Form 6 for Tamil Nadu Voter ID registration.
I. Address Proof (any one)
- Water/Electricity/Gas connection bill for that address (at least 1 year old
- Aadhaar Card
- Current passbook of Nationalized/Scheduled Bank/Post Office
- Indian Passport
- Revenue Department’s land owning records including KisanBahi
- Registered Rent Lease Deed (in case of tenant)
- Registered Sale Deed (in case of own house)
(The address proof can be in the name of the applicant or in the name of parent/spouse/more than 17-year-old child already enrolled at the same address.)
II. Age Proof (any one)
- Birth certificate issued by Competent Local Body/Municipal Authority/Registrar of Births & Deaths
- Aadhaar Card
- PAN Card
- Driving Licence
- Certificate of Class X or Class XII issued by CBSE/ICSE/State Education Board (if it contains Date of Birth)
- Indian Passport

Steps To Apply For Voter ID Online
If your name is on the electoral roll and your mobile number is registered with the Election Commission of India and linked to your EPIC, you can download your e-EPIC from https://voters.eci.gov.in. Online registration is processed through the National Voters’ Service Portal.
I. Through the National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP)
Step 1: Register or log in using your mobile number and OTP on the Voters’ Service Portal.
Step 2: Open Form 6 under the New Voter Registration tab.
Step 3: Enter personal, address, and family details.
Step 4: Upload required age and residence proof documents.
Step 5: Review and submit the application.
(Save the acknowledgement reference number for tracking.)
II. Through the CEO Tamil Nadu Website
The ‘Electoral Services’ page on the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer website redirects users to the NVSP portal for registration through the ‘Online Registration Facility’ option.
Steps To Apply For Voter ID Offline
Applicants can submit their Voter ID application directly at the respective Electoral Registration Office in Tamil Nadu.
Step 1: Download Form 6 pdf or collect a printed copy from the local office.
Step 2: Provide complete personal and residential information in the form.
Step 3: Attach supporting documents for age and address verification.
Step 4: Submit the filled form to the authorised official at the office.
Step 5: Obtain the acknowledgement receipt for future reference.
Upon approval, the applicant’s details are incorporated into the Tamil Nadu electoral roll search system and the EPIC (Elector Photo Identity Card) is issued.
How to Check Voter ID Status?
Applicants can monitor their Voter ID application progress online.
Step 1: After logging in, navigate to the ‘Track Application Status’ section on the National Voters’ Service Portal.
Step 2: Provide your application reference number in the required field.
Step 3: Check the displayed update status of your Voter ID application.
How To Download Voter ID Cards Online?
Once the application is approved, applicants can download their Voter ID through the e-EPIC service on the Voters’ Service Portal.
Step 1: Log in and open the ‘e-EPIC Download’ section on the National Voters’ Service Portal.
Step 2: Enter your EPIC number or the Form reference number.
Step 3: Select ‘Send OTP’. This option is available only if your mobile number is linked.
Step 4: Enter the received OTP and click ‘Verify’.
Step 5: Choose ‘Download e-EPIC’ to download the digital Voter ID.
