Australia all-rounder Cameron Green was the flavour of the IPL 2026 mini-auction as three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank to secure his services for the next season. Green triggered
a bidding war between KKR and five-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings, which saw his price rocket from Rs 2 crore to a jaw-dropping Rs 25.20 crore.
The amount paid by KKR is the highest any overseas star has commanded at an IPL auction, surpassing the previous record of Rs 24.75 crore of Mitchell Starc.
However, life as IPL’s costliest overseas player hasn’t started on a positive note for Green, though, as he registered a two-ball duck on the opening day of the third Ashes Test between Australia and England that got underway from Wednesday in Adelaide.
Walking in to bat at No 5, Green flicked one away from Jofra Archer, but Brydon Carse showed athleticism at mid-wicket to complete a superb diving catch to send the Aussie back to the pavilion in the blink of an eye.
What Cameron Green Said After Signing For KKR
Soon after joining KKR, Green, in a short clip, expressed his delight at the prospect of playing his IPL home matches at the historic Eden Gardens.
“I’m so excited to be part of Kolkata for this year’s IPL, to get down to the Eden Gardens, get used to that atmosphere, and hope it’s a great year for us. So, see you soon,” Green said in a video shared by KKR on Tuesday evening.

With Andre Russell retiring, KKR were in hunt of an all-rounder and Green, says KKR CEO Venky Mysore, fits the bill.
“He adds a lot to our team, especially with our new power coach Andre Russell, very nice to have a young all-rounder. Him having had IPL experience, we know what he does with bat and ball. Couldn’t be happier,” Mysore said.
