UGC NET December 2025 Subject-Wise Exam Datesheet
This exam is held to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as Assistant Professor, admission to Ph.D., and admission to Ph.D. only in Indian universities and colleges. However, UGC-NET is not just a qualification for teaching. It is a gateway to many career paths. Major research institutes like CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DRDO hire NET qualified candidates as research associates. The role of these candidates is important in data collection, analysis, report writing and academic publications.
Public sector undertakings (PSUs) also give high value to NET qualification. There are well-paid positions available for those with subject expertise in organisations like BHEL, NTPC, IOC, and ONGC among others.
A minimum of 33 per cent is needed for General, EWS, and OBC candidates to qualify for both fellowship and lectureship. On the other hand, PwD, SC, and ST categories must secure at least 25 per cent of the minimum percentage to be eligible for both JRF and Assistant Professor and Lectureship positions.
