Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2026 campaign has received a timely boost as their overseas fast bowling star Pat Cummins has fully recovered from an injury that prevented him from taking the field for the franchise
with the season already underway in India. Cummins has been recovering from a stress injury for which he left India midway through the IPL 2026 for scheduled follow-up scans in Australia.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the latest scans have shown the injury has now healed, meaning Cummins could be back playing competitive cricket in the coming days.
Cummins is the first-choice SRH captain and in his absence wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has stepped in with the team currently fourth in the standings following three wins and two defeats from five matches.
Cummins is scheduled to take a flight to India on Friday (April 17).
Cummins’ First Match Of IPL 2026 On April 25?
The Australia Test captain has already indicated that SRH’s clash against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur could be his first appearance of IPL 2026. While responding to a comment on his holiday post in Blue Mountains, Cummins wrote, “aiming for 25th vs RR”.
Which Injury Cummins Is Recovering From?
The 32-year-old suffered a lumbar bone stress (which results in low back pain) in August last year and it resulted in him playing a limited role in Australia’s home Ashes triumph over England. He featured in just one game as the hosts won the five-match series 4-1.
Cummins failed to attain fitness for the 2026 T20 World Cup too and missed the entire competition where Australia were eliminated in the Super 8 stage.
On the other hand, Cummins’ Australia teammate Mitchell Starc still remains an IPL uncertainty with the left-arm pacer continuing his recovery from shoulder and elbow injuries. He was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 11.75 crore at the mega auction and took 14 wickets in 11 games last season.
