India pacer Prasidh Krishna registered a forgettable record to his name on Friday (June 26), becoming the first bowler in the world to concede 125 runs in two consecutive T20Is. He conceded 57 runs in his four
wicketless overs against Ireland in Belfast, to follow his spell of 0/68 in his previous T20I — against Australia, which came two years ago in Guwahati in 2023.
Brought into the attack in the seventh over, the right-arm pacer started promisingly by beating Benjamin Calitz outside off but was hit for two sixes in the same over, including one straight back over his head, leaking 14 runs.
His second spell was more controlled despite Gareth Delany driving a short, wide delivery for four, while another delivery narrowly missed the stumps after beating the batter on the inside edge.
Returning in the 12th over, Prasidh produced one of his best balls to beat Lorcan Tucker with pace and movement, but also conceded a scoop for four after an attempted yorker became a low full toss.
His final over unravelled dramatically. George Dockrell drove the opening ball to the boundary before Delany punished successive slot deliveries with a four, followed by three consecutive sixes. The over yielded 27 runs, the most expensive ever bowled by an Indian against Ireland in T20 Internationals, as his repeated attempts at yorkers and slower balls failed to stem the assault.
It was the essence of what frustrates most observers and fans about Prasidh — he has natural attributes that can make him one of the best bowlers in the world, but his inconsistency more often than not makes him an easy target. That is also why questions were raised when he was selected to the team for this series as a replacement for Mohammed Siraj, who was ruled out due to injury.
His spell contributed greatly to Ireland scoring 182/9 in 20 overs.
