Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on October 8. It will be the second for Mumbai after the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The NMIA is located in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, 37 km from south Mumbai, and has an area of 1,160 hectares.
Navi Mumbai International Airport: Key Points
While the initial phase has a single integrated terminal for domestic and international operations, it will eventually have four terminals by the final phase.
The NMIA has two ‘Code F’ compliant parallel runways – one with 3,700m length/ 60m width and the second with 3,700m length/ 60m width.

The initial phase will have 20 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA), eventually reaching 90 MPPA.
The initial cargo capacity will 0.5 million metric tonnes annually (MMTPA)
Its IATA/ ICAO CODE is NMI/ VANM.
The design is inspired by lotus, with 12 sculptural feature columns – anchors that rise like unfurling petals.
What NMIA passengers will get
Commercially Important Person (CIP) lounges will be able to accommodate approximately 500 passengers
It has a dedicated kids’ play zone for domestic departures
There will be immersive digital tunnels with interactive screens and kinetic installations narrating stories of Mumbai, Maharashtra and India, showcasing the heritage of Maharashtra and a tribute to local communities through various art forms.

There is a transit day hotel with 80-room facility for a short stay.
The baggage services will include direct delivery of luggage from home to destination, left luggage- cloak room, baggage repair, baggage wrap, etc.
