An unidentified person allegedly hurled a petrol bomb at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Punjab’s Sangrur, police said on Monday. The attack, which left scorch marks on the building, prompted
a police probe. However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to Punjab BJP General Secretary Anil Sarin, the attack occurred at around 3 am on Sunday when a glass bottle containing petrol was thrown at the party office. The bottle hit the exterior wall before bursting into flames, causing minor damage to the premises.

Soon after the attack was reported, police officials rushed to the scene to investigate the incident. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage from the area and examining other evidence to identify the accused. A forensic team was also called to collect samples from the site.
Police Launch Probe
Sangrur Superintendent of Police (SP) Davinder Attri said the case was being investigated from every possible angle and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible once they were identified.
SP Atri added that senior police officials, including the DSP and the Sangrur SHO, rushed to the BJP office after the incident and inspected the spot. He said the attackers had filled petrol in a beer bottle to turn it into a petrol bomb. Atri added that an FIR was being registered against the unidentified culprits and assured that they would be arrested soon. He said the police had launched an investigation and would take strict action against those responsible.
BJP Reacts
Further, Sarin claimed the nature of the attack suggested it was premeditated, alleging that the attackers had conducted prior reconnaissance and specifically targeted the building’s kitchen by throwing the petrol bomb in that direction. Sarin described the incident as a serious security concern and called for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the attack.
“At around 2:47 a.m. on Sunday, a petrol bomb was thrown at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sangrur office. The manner in which it was hurled clearly indicates that the attackers had conducted proper reconnaissance beforehand, as they specifically attempted to throw the petrol bomb into the kitchen…,” he said.
