In view of New Year’s Eve, the Delhi police have made special traffic arrangements for the areas around Connaught Place in anticipation of large gatherings in the region. The restrictions advisory shall
be applicable to both private and public transport.
According to the advisory, no vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place from – 1. R/A Mandi House 2. R/A Bengali Market 3. North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover 4. Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing 5. Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Rly. Station) 6. R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing 7. R/A Gole Market 8. R/A G.P.O., New Delhi 9. Patel Chowk 10. Kasturba Gandhi Road – Ferozeshah Road Crossing 11. Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane and 12. R/A Windsor Place.
The restrictions will take effect starting 7 P.M. on Wednesday, December 31. Moreover, only vehicles carrying valid passes will be allowed in the inner, outer, or middle circle of Connaught Place.
Parking arrangements
As per the traffic arrangements announced by the Delhi police, commuters can park their vehicles at: (i)Near Gole Dak Khana on: (a) Kali Bari Marg, (b) Pt. Pant Marg (c) Bhai Veer Singh Marg
(ii) Near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR.
(iii) Near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House.
(iv)Near Minto Road on D.D. Upadhaya Marg and Press Road area.
(v)Near Panchkuian Road on R.K. Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road &Basant Road towards Pahar Ganj.
(vi)Near K.G. Marg-Ferozshah Road Crossing on Copernicus Lane as well as K.G. Marg towards C-Hexagon.
(vii) Near R/A Bengali market – on Babar Road and Tansen Marg
(viii)Near Windsor Place on: (a) Rajender Prasad Road (b) Raisina Road
(ix) Near Gole Market at Peshwa Road, Service Road along Bhai Veer Singh Marg and R K Ashram Road.
(x)Near R/A Buta Singh on Jantar Mantar Road, Raisina Road.
In view of the limited parking space available near Connaught Place, commuters will be allowed to park their vehicles on a first-come come first-served basis. Unauthorised parked vehicles shall be towed away and prosecuted, the advisory reads.
Access to New Delhi Railway Station (From South)
For those who are scheduled to reach the New Delhi Railway Station, the following routes are advised:
- Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street- Mandir Marg- Rani Jhansi Road- R/A Jhande Walan- Desh Bandhu Gupta Road.
- R/A GPO- Kali Bari Marg- Mandir Marg- Rani Jhansi Road- R/A Jhande Walan- Desh Bandhu Gupta Road.
- R/A Windsor Place- Ferozeshah Road- Mandi House- ‘W’ Point- ‘A’ Point- DDU Marg- Bhav Bhuti Marg.
- Entry from Connaught Place – Chelmsford Road shall be prohibited.
According to the advisory, commuters are advised to use alternative routes for the North-South movements, which are given below:
- Ring Road from ISBT to Ashram
- Via Delhi Gate, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mathura Road to reach Ashram and vice-versa
- Via ISBT, Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuiyan Road, Mandir Marg, Park Street, Mother Teresa Crescent Road and continue further
- Via Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuiyan Road, Hanuman Murti, Ring Road.
For east-west movement, commuters are advised to take Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, R/A RML, Park Street, and Shankar Road.
Traffic curbs around India Gate
With throngs expected to gather near India Gate to celebrate New Year’s Eve, the Delhi Police have announced special traffic arrangements for the region. In case of heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may not be allowed to go through the C-Hexagon, India Gate area and diverted from the following places – 1. Q-Point 2. R/A MLNP 3. R/A Sunheri Masjid 4. R/A Mar-Janpath 5. Rajpath Rafi Marg 6. R/A Windsor Place 7. R/A Rajindra Prasad Road Janpath 8. KG Marg-Ferozeshah Road 9. R/A Mandi House 10. W-Point 11. Mathura-Road-Purana Qila Road and 12. Mathura Road-Sher Shah Road
Similarly, in view of a large gathering expected at Delhi Zoo that may result in congestion on Mathura Road, the public is advised to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan.
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys in accordance with the traffic advisory to avoid inconvenience.
