IndiGo on Friday warned of possible flight delays across several cities as dense fog continued to linger over parts of north and central India. In a travel advisory, the airline said fog was affecting
operations in Varanasi, Udaipur, Jammu, Visakhapatnam and Jaisalmer, leading to slower departures and arrivals. IndiGo cautioned that certain routes across its network could experience short delays as weather conditions persist.
“Departures and arrivals to and from these cities, as well as certain routes across our network, may experience short delays as we work through the weather conditions,” the airline said.
The advisory comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its extended-range forecast issued on January 1, warned that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue across large parts of north India, along with cold wave conditions at isolated places.
According to the IMD, dense fog has persisted across eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Delhi, particularly during night and early morning hours, with similar conditions likely to continue into the first week of January. Cold wave conditions have also been observed at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Telangana, the weatherman said.
While the IMD forecast does not name individual cities, it has flagged cold wave conditions over Telangana and adjoining regions, which can at times extend into neighbouring parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, including areas around Visakhapatnam.
Varanasi, in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Jaisalmer and Udaipur in Rajasthan fall within regions where the IMD has reported recurring dense fog spells, while Jammu has also seen periods of low visibility amid cold conditions.

The IMD has warned that low wind speeds, prolonged fog and low cloud cover over these regions could continue to disrupt surface transport and flight operations, especially during early morning hours.
IndiGo said its teams were continuing to assist passengers at airports and were in close coordination with authorities to restore smoother operations as soon as conditions permit. The airline advised travellers to keep checking their flight status for the latest updates.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and are hopeful for the skies to clear soon, ensuring a smooth journey ahead,” IndiGo said, thanking passengers for their patience.
