Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family was plunged into mourning on Wednesday when Prateek Yadav (38), his son from second wife Sadhna Gupta, passed away at Lucknow’s Civil Hospital. The
cause of death was not immediately ascertained, with many reports describing the demise as “mysterious”.
According to reports, Prateek Yadav had suddenly fallen ill and was rushed to the Civil Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday, but was declared dead at the hospital.
Unlike his father Mulayam Singh Yadav and half-brother Akhilesh Yadav, Prateek Yadav stayed away from active politics and was known for being a fitness enthusiast besides running his private businesses. His wife Aparna Bisht Yadav eventually joined the BJP and is currently the vice chairman of the State Women Commission.
Who Was Prateek Yadav
Despite running multiple businesses in real estate and fitness entrepreneurship, Prateek Yadav was more widely known for belonging to the Yadav political dynasty. He former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh’s second son, born to his second wife Sadhna Gupta. That made him former chief minister AKhilesh Yadav’s half-brother.
He married Aparna Bisht (now Aparna Yadav) in 2011. Aparna began her political career with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in January 2022, expressing admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Aparna contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from the Lucknow Cantonment constituency on an SP ticket but lost to the BJP’s Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
The couple have a daughter together.
What Businesses Did Prateek Yadav Run?
Choosing to stay away from politics, Prateek Yadav worked in real estate and fitness entrepreneurship, and was known for founding ventures like gyms and animal welfare efforts. He held an MBA degree from Leeds University in London, United Kingdom.
He never held any elected office or a major post in the Samajwadi Party, and generally stayed away from mainstream politics. In an interview back in 2017, Prateek had said he planned to keep away from politics for as long as he could to focus on his businesses. While there were occasional calls within party circles for him to contest elections, he never pursued a political career.
