Vir Das is stepping into a new creative chapter as he gears up for his directorial debut with Happy Patel, backed by Aamir Khan Productions. While this marks his first time directing under the banner,
Vir’s association with Aamir goes back to Delhi Belly, where he famously featured in the irreverent item number “Jaa Chudail.”
The memories resurfaced during filmmaker Farah Khan’s recent visit to Vir’s home, where the trio’s shared history became the centre of a candid, laughter-filled conversation.
Inspired by Om Shanti Om, Tees Maar Khan and Andaz Apna Apna
Talking about Happy Patel, Vir revealed that the film draws heavily from Farah Khan’s brand of large-scale spoofs and pop-culture humour. “Anybody who likes Om Shanti Om will like this,” he said confidently, adding that the film belongs to the same space as Tees Maar Khan.
Vir also placed Happy Patel alongside the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna. That comparison prompted Farah to drop a surprising truth bomb. “When I watched Andaz Apna Apna back in the day, I knew it would be a huge flop—and it actually was,” she said.
A stunned Vir responded instantly, “Andaz Apna Apna was a flop? Aamir never disclosed this to me.”
‘He Only Slaps… And He Slaps Hard’
The banter soon shifted to Vir’s equation with Aamir Khan. Joking about their off-screen camaraderie, Vir quipped, “He only slaps. And he slaps hard,” referencing their playful exchanges during Happy Patel promotions.
Farah shot back with a grin, “Obviously, because you hurt him with your words.”
The ‘Jaa Chudail’ Song and Farah’s ‘Jealousy’ Theory
Farah then dropped another behind-the-scenes revelation. Calling Vir’s wife Shivani, she asked if she knew Farah had choreographed Jaa Chudail. Shivani confirmed, calling the experience “too much fun.”
Farah went a step further, claiming the song was cut short because Aamir’s track followed next. “Aamir cut it out of jealousy,” she joked.
Vir pretended to defend the official explanation. “But I was told there were pacing issues,” he said, prompting Farah’s sarcastic response: “Yeah, sure.”
Leather Pants, Curly Wigs and Aamir Khan’s Wardrobe
The conversation reached peak absurdity when Vir recalled being dressed in leather pants for the song. Farah laughed and added another twist. “Those were Aamir’s pants.”
A shocked Farah then asked how Vir even fit into them. Vir replied, “I had to wear something extra…”
Farah summed it up perfectly: “Aamir, we are exposing a lot of your secrets.”
Happy Patel Release and Imran Khan’s Comeback
Happy Patel, slated to release on January 16, is not just Vir Das’ directorial debut—it also marks Imran Khan’s return to the big screen, making the project one of the more talked-about releases of early 2026.
With irreverent humour, meta spoofs, and playful digs at Bollywood itself, Happy Patel promises the kind of madness that Vir insists fans of Farah Khan’s cinema will instantly recognise—and enjoy.
