A clip showing a street vendor selling paneer sandwiches at a very low price has caught people’s attention. In the video, a man from Pune questions the vendor about how the sandwich can cost just Rs 20
if it contains paneer. What follows is a claim that the paneer being used may not be real.
The man explains what he says he learned and warns viewers to be careful while buying paneer products from outside.
Man Questions How Paneer Sandwich Costs Just Rs 20
The video begins at a busy street stall. A glass display case is filled with neatly stacked sandwiches. Rows of bread stuffed with filling can be seen from top to bottom. People are moving around in the background, and the stall appears to be set up in a crowded market area.
A man standing near the cart points at one of the sandwiches and asks the vendor, “Brother, how much is this?” The vendor replies, “Twenty rupees.” The man sounds surprised and says, “Twenty rupees. What paneer is in it?” He then asks again, “Paneer comes for twenty rupees.”
Man Explains What The Vendor Told Him
The clip then cuts to the man speaking directly to the camera. He shares what he claims the vendor told him when he questioned the low price.
“When I asked the vendor, ‘How can paneer be this cheap?’ He casually replied, ‘This paneer is not made from milk. And here is the truth,” the man reveals in the clip.
“Small street shops to big restaurants use this fake paneer to cut costs. This fake paneer goes by the name analog paneer, a cheap and synthetic alternative. And you know what it is made of? It is mostly palm oil or hydrogenated vegetable oil, along with starches, synthetic emulsifiers, and chemicals that mimic the texture of real paneer,” he also stated.
Explaining the dangers attached to it, the man says, “These are loaded with trans fats, preservatives, which increase the risk of heart disease, obesity, and liver damage.”
He then advised that “First, check the price, so if the cost is too good to be true, the texture is soft and chewy. The third and most definite way is the iodine test. Fake paneer turns blue due to added starch. while real paneer remains unchanged.”

550 Kg Of Fake Paneer Seized In Noida During Food Safety Check
In October 2025, authorities in Noida seized 550 kg of fake paneer and destroyed the unsafe stock. Officials reportedly said the action followed food safety checks.
A wider probe by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India found that 83 per cent of paneer samples failed quality tests, with nearly 40 per cent labelled unsafe due to adulterants. Consumers were urged to buy from trusted sources and consider safer, non-dairy alternatives if unsure.
