In an effort to ease growing traffic congestion across key stretches of Mumbai, the Traffic Police have announced a series of parking restrictions and odd-even parking arrangements in Sakinaka, Worli and the Bhandup-Mulund
belt.
Officials said the new measures are aimed at improving traffic flow, preventing roadside bottlenecks and ensuring smoother movement for emergency and essential service vehicles.
Odd-Even Parking On Sakinaka’s Technology Street
According to the Traffic Police, heavy roadside parking on Technology Street in Sakinaka has been creating severe congestion and obstructing the movement of ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and other emergency services. The affected stretch runs from Olympia Building to Gopal Chandrabhan Circle, where local residents, office employees and shopkeepers frequently park vehicles on both sides of the road.
To address the issue, authorities have introduced a temporary odd-even parking system on the stretch. Under the new arrangement:
- Parking allowed on the left side of the road on even dates of every month.
- Parking will be permitted on the right side of the road on odd-numbered dates.
Traffic Police have prohibited the parking of heavy vehicles in the area. The restrictions came into effect on May 7 and will remain in force until August 6, as reported by The Times Of India.
Parking Curbs Announced On Worli’s GM Bhosle Road
The Traffic Police have also imposed fresh parking restrictions on GM Bhosle Road in Worli to reduce congestion along one of the locality’s important connecting roads. Officials said GM Bhosle Road links PK Kurne Chowk with Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli Naka) and experiences significant vehicular as well as pedestrian movement throughout the day.
Authorities noted that despite repeated warnings, vehicles continued to be parked extensively along the main carriageway, worsening traffic congestion.
To regulate traffic movement and curb disorderly parking, the following restrictions have been imposed from May 7 to August 4:
- Parking has been banned for taxis, commercial four-wheelers and heavy vehicles on both the southbound and northbound sides of GM Bhosle Marg.
- On even dates, parking of two-wheelers and private four-wheelers will not be allowed on the southbound side.
- On odd dates, parking of two-wheelers and private four-wheelers will be prohibited on the northbound side.
Officials believe the restrictions will help improve traffic flow on the busy corridor.
Bhandup-Mulund Belt Gets Odd-Even Parking System
Traffic Police have introduced similar restrictions in the Bhandup-Mulund region to tackle congestion caused by roadside parking along Jungle Mangal Road.
The affected stretch extends from Khot Gully to Shivaji Lake, an internal road where local residents and office workers frequently park vehicles on both sides, narrowing available carriage space. Authorities said the new odd-even parking arrangement is expected to improve vehicle movement and reduce bottlenecks in the area.
Under the revised rules:
- Parking will be permitted on the left side of Jungle Mangal Road, from Shivaji Lake to Khot Gully, on even dates.
- Parking allowed on the right side on odd dates.
Parking of all heavy vehicles has also been prohibited on the stretch. The restrictions in the Bhandup-Mulund belt will remain effective from May 12 until August 11.
Traffic Police Aim To Reduce Jams Across Key Corridors
Officials said the parking regulations have been introduced as part of broader efforts to improve traffic management in congested parts of Mumbai. The measures are expected to ease pressure on narrow internal roads, reduce illegal roadside parking and ensure smoother access for emergency response vehicles and daily commuters alike.
