Thane Metros may be the solution motorists from Ghodbunder Road, Kasarvadavali and Balkum have been waiting for to solve their travel woes. The region will get three distinct metro corridors to improve
connectivity both within the city and to surrounding regions: They are Mumbai Metro Line 4, Mumbai Metro Line 5, and the Thane Integral Ring Metro. Here’s all you need to know:
MUMBAI METRO LINE 4
It is a long regional corridor being built by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) that stretches from Wadala in central Mumbai to Kasarvadavali in eastern Thane, covering about 32.32 km with approximately 30 stations, all on an elevated route.
This line is designed to dramatically cut travel times between Mumbai and Thane and is part of one of the largest metro corridors in the region — a full extension including a short spur, Line 4A (from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh), brings the total to around 35.20 km with 32 stations.
Line 4 will intersect other metro corridors and key transport nodes, providing passengers in Thane access toward central Mumbai as well as connections to other parts of the metro network.
MUMBAI METRO LINE 5
Often called the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan line, is another elevated metro corridor measuring about 24.9 km with 15 stations, which links Thane with the neighboring cities of Bhiwandi and Kalyan.
It is intended to ease regional commuting and integrate with other metro lines (such as Line 4) and the existing central railway. Line 5 enhances eastward connectivity from Thane and supports growing travel demand across the broader metropolitan area.
THANE METRO
The Thane Integral Ring Metro is a city focused loop line specifically serving the internal transport needs of Thane itself. This line forms a circular route of about 29 km with 22 stations, 20 of them elevated and two underground near the Thane railway station.
Unlike the other corridors, which extend beyond Thane, the Ring Metro operates entirely within the city, connecting major localities such as Wagle Estate, Manpada, Balkum, Rabodi, and both the old and new Thane railway stations. It also includes planned interchange points with Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Line 5, making it a key backbone for intra city travel and integration with the wider metro network.
Together, these three metro corridors — Line 4 (Wadala-Gaimukh), Line 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan), and the Thane Integral Ring Metro — will significantly expand rapid transit options for Thane residents by serving both local urban circulation and connections to the larger Mumbai region.
