A group of four tourists reportedly cut short their Goa holiday after an alleged altercation with local taxi drivers in North Goa, according to a viral Reddit post titled “Thought renting a car would save
us from the Goa taxi scene. Nope”.
The traveller claimed the group had rented a self-drive vehicle to avoid the transport-related problems often associated with Goa tourism.
According to the post, the first two days of the trip were uneventful.
Trouble allegedly began on the third day when a local cab driver reportedly hit the left side of their rented car while they were parking. “For the first two days, everything was smooth, and we had zero issues driving around. But on the third day, while we were parking, a local cab driver rammed into the left side of our car,” the tourist wrote.
The Reddit user alleged that instead of admitting fault, the cab driver became aggressive and called several other drivers to the spot, leading to a heated roadside confrontation that lasted around 30 minutes. While the situation did not become physical, the tourist said the incident “completely killed the vibe of the trip.”

According to the post, the cab driver eventually paid Rs 5,000 towards the damages after a prolonged argument. However, the rental company later allegedly charged the group close to Rs 20,000 for repairs.
“In the end, the cab driver paid us 5k, and that only happened because we argued back just as aggressively as they did, but the rental company still charged us around 20k for the damages,” the user claimed.
The tourist said the experience left the group disheartened enough to end their vacation early. “After that incident, none of us was really in the mood anymore, so we cut the trip short and left the next day,” the post read.
The viral post sparked widespread discussion online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences and concerns regarding Goa’s transport situation. Several commenters also advised travellers to be “mentally prepared” while visiting the state.
A user wrote, “Never been to Goa after 2020, and most probably will never go again. Forget Europe, Uk, Japan etc, once you discover the beauty of SE Asia, you will feel goa is a hellhole. I have absolutely no sympathy for the crooked taxi mafia , let them suffer due to their own wrongdoings.”
While another advised, “Rent from good companies with contractual documents like zoomcar Had u planned with zoomcar, you would’ve gotten away with maximum of 100rs provided you choose the 1k Rs add on (else its around 2500 that u would’ve paid with basic add on).”
