A 22-year-old woman was beaten to death by her husband, nearly eight months after the couple had tied the knot. The incident that took place in Telangana’s Vikarabad district came to light after a video
of the incident went viral online.
The victim, identified as Anusha, had married Parmesh Kumar eight months ago, and the couple’s relationship was troubled, with frequent arguments, reportedly over dowry-related issues.
Two days before Anusha’s death, she had gone to her parents’ place following a dispute. Kumar later brought her back, assuring her family that things would improve. However, the couple got into another argument soon after she returned.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the couple riding a motorcycle through their village before stopping near a house. Anusha gets down and walks ahead, visibly limping. Kumar follows her, grabs her jacket from behind and drags her back towards the house. She is later seen sitting on the porch.
A woman from a neighbouring house hands Kumar a key. He then pulls Anusha by the neck and arm and forces her towards the door. At one point, Anusha throws away what appears to be the key, after which Kumar allegedly becomes violent.
The footage shows him hitting and kicking her before picking up a wooden log and striking her repeatedly on the head. A neighbour is seen trying to intervene, but is unable to stop the assault.
Anusha was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Her brother later approached the police, demanding strict action against Kumar and his mother. A case has been filed in the matter and a further investigation is underway.
