Millions of fans adore the lives and films of their favourite stars, some so passionately that they’re willing to give up everything for them. Among such devoted admirers is Pankaj, a 21-year-old from
Kheri village near Meham in Haryana’s Rohtak district, whose love for Akshay Kumar drove him to do something extraordinary.
Building A Rolls-Royce By Hand
A skilled denter at an automobile service centre in Rohtak, Pankaj quit his job and spent five months building a luxury car resembling a Rolls-Royce entirely by hand as a gift for his idol. He borrowed Rs 4 lakh, collected spare parts from Rohtak, Delhi, Bhiwani and Hisar, and poured his heart into the project.
Though his father initially disapproved, he later lent support, helping fund the dream.
The Journey To Meet His Hero
By October, the car was complete. Overjoyed, Pankaj contacted Akshay Kumar’s team, who asked him to come to Mumbai. He sent the car by truck, paying Rs 1.10 lakh for transport, and travelled with eight villagers, spending another Rs 1.20 lakh on food and accommodation, plus Rs 50,000 on a rented car, a journey that cost him dearly.
When Dreams Met Reality
But when he reached Mumbai, reality struck hard. For six days, Pankaj waited outside Akshay Kumar’s residence. When the actor finally appeared, he greeted them briefly before leaving, asking them to meet later. Two days later, the team informed Pankaj that Akshay Kumar had gone abroad. Heartbroken and unable to present his gift, Pankaj returned home on November 19, shattered and in debt of nearly Rs 8 lakh.
Determined not to give up, he now plans to rent out the car for Haryanvi films and plays to recover some of his losses. From November 10, he resumed work as a denter at Mahindra Company in Rohtak, his dreams bruised but his spirit unbroken.
