BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won the Falta Assembly constituency with more than 1 lakh votes, marking a landslide victory in TMC fortress on Sunday, May 24.
According to Election Commission Of India, Panda
bagged 1,48,749 votes.
In the stronghold of Abhishek Banerjee’s much-publicised “Diamond Harbour Model,” the Trinamool Congress not only suffered a crushing defeat but also lost its deposit. TMC candidate Jahangir Khan slipped to fourth position after announcing his withdrawal from the race.
‘EVMs were rigged during counting,’ Alleges Mamata Banerjee
Meanwhile, former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, “EVMs were rigged during counting, votes were looted and I was pushed out of the counting centre.” She said people of Bengal and All India Trinamool Congress workers have been victims of terror after the May 4 results.
Diamond Harbour model has turned into a Trinamool defeat model: Suvendu Adhikary
ON BJP’s victory in Falta, West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikary said, “First and foremost, I bow my head before the people of Falta for sending Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shri Debangshu Panda to the Assembly with an overwhelming mandate in the Falta by-election. I am especially grateful to the voters of Falta. I had appealed to the people to ensure a victory margin of one lakh votes for the BJP candidate, and the margin has crossed one lakh eight thousand. We will repay this debt through development. We are committed to building a prosperous Falta.”
“A party devoid of principles and ideology, which had transformed itself into a mafia enterprise, has now been exposed in its skeletal form after losing power. By misusing state machinery, looting public wealth, extorting the hard-earned money of ordinary people, and fostering a culture of syndicates and threats, the leaders of this party had begun to believe they were above everything,” he added
“A fraudster who descended by parachute and earned the title of ‘commander’ committed every possible crime imaginable. To establish his criminal syndicate, this ‘cat in tiger’s skin’ did not hesitate to throttle the voice of democracy. As a result, by turning the previous election into a mockery, the Trinamool secured a lead of one and a half lakh votes in this Assembly constituency. But after 15 years, when people regained the freedom to cast their votes independently, the real picture emerged,” he said.
“This is only the beginning. A long journey of public rejection now awaits them. In the days ahead, the leadership of the Trinamool Congress will face a difficult electoral battle even against NOTA. The All India Trinamool Congress has already lost to NOTA in the Tripura Assembly elections. The people of West Bengal are now waiting to witness this intense contest unfold in the state as well.
Abhishek Banerjee Alleges ‘Glaring Inconsistencies’ in Falta repolling
“The Falta AC repoll counting today exposes glaring inconsistencies. By 3:30 pm in the afternoon today all 21 rounds were completed. On 4th May, till the same time, only 2- 4 rounds had taken place. The country deserves an explanation from the ECI. Although more than 1000 workers from Falta have been forced to flee their homes in the last 10 days the Election Commission continued to turn a blind eye. Party offices were vandalised in broad daylight even when the Model Code of Conduct was in force,” he said in a post on X.
“The Election Commission has taken no action. Instead, the CEO, who was allegedly used by the ECI to delete names under the guise of SIR and manipulate the electoral process, was appointed Chief Secretary of the new WB government at a time when the Model Code of Conduct was still in force in Falta and the polling process had not even been completed,” he added
“Even more worrying, counting agents of Trinamool and other political parties, except the BJP, were allegedly thrown out of the venue on May 4th by officials and central forces deployed under the Election Commission of India. This is deeply alarming and strikes at the heart of free and fair elections. Unless compromised officials are held accountable and an independent CCTV audit of the counting process is conducted, questions over the credibility of the mandate will only grow stronger. The truth cannot be suppressed forever!,” Banerjee said.
