Sourav Ganguly replaced Jonathan Trott, who departed after just one season as head coach. Trott, a former England batter, was appointed before the 2025 season but experienced a disappointing campaign, with the Capitals securing only two wins in 10 matches and failing to qualify for the knockouts.
Ganguly has played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, scoring over 18,000 runs and has led India to the 2003 World Cup final. Following his retirement, he served as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and later as BCCI president from 2019 to 2022.
