The striking first-look poster recreates one of the most unforgettable moments in Indian cricket history. Rajkummar Rao is seen bare-chested, waving his blue Team India jersey from the famous Lord’s balcony while the Indian tricolour flies in the background — Ganguly’s iconic celebration after India’s dramatic win in the NatWest Series final in England.

The real-life moment dates back to July 13, 2002, when India pulled off a remarkable chase of 326 against England in the NatWest Series final at Lord’s. After youngsters Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif scripted an unforgettable comeback, an emotional Ganguly took off his shirt and waved it from the Lord’s balcony in celebration. The gesture came months after England’s Andrew Flintoff had celebrated by taking off his shirt following England’s win over India at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Ganguly’s response became one of the defining images of Indian cricket and symbolised the fearless, aggressive mindset he brought to the national team.
Why Sourav Ganguly Is One Of India’s Greatest Cricket Captains
Sourav Ganguly is considered one of the greatest captains in Indian cricket. When he became captain in 2000, Indian cricket was going through a difficult phase. He built a fearless team, backed young players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan and MS Dhoni, and encouraged them to play with confidence.
Under Ganguly’s captaincy, India reached the 2003 ODI World Cup final, won the memorable 2002 NatWest Series at Lord’s and shared the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy. He also formed one of the most successful opening partnerships in ODI cricket with Sachin Tendulkar.
With more than 18,000 international runs, Ganguly was one of India’s finest batters. But beyond his records, he is remembered for making India a confident, aggressive team that believed it could beat any opponent, anywhere in the world.
Sourav took to his X to share the poster and wrote, “The Best Gift Ever! Can’t wait to see you play my cover drive!”
