As rains continue to lash parts of Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the hill state for Monday and Tuesday.
As
of Monday morning, around 310 roads, including the NH-305 (Aut to Sainj), were closed due to ongoing moderate to heavy rainfall across the state.
The Mandi district, already classified as disaster-affected, has reported the highest number of closures at 171, followed by 68 in Kullu, reported news agency PTI, citing the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC)
In Shimla’s Panthaghati, a landslide on Sunday night blocked the Mehli-Shogi bypass, damaging nearby shops and obstructing traffic.

Since Sunday evening, several parts of the state recorded significant rainfall: Kasauli received 82 mm of rain followed by 62.6 mm in Naina Devi, 60 mm in Jogindernagar, 49.2 mm in Brahmani, 45 mm in Manali, 29 mm in Guler, 27 mm in Pandoh, 26.2 mm in Karsog, 25.5 mm in Sarahan and 28 mm in Shimla, the Met department reported.
Heavy rain has also affected essential services, with 113 power transformers and 236 water supply schemes disrupted across the state, PTI reported.
Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has suffered damages worth Rs1,714 crore. The monsoon has caused extensive destruction, with 1,649 houses either fully or partially damaged. The state has recorded 53 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts, and 47 major landslides till date.
Meanwhile, the rain-related fatalities have risen to 103, with 36 people still missing. Out of total deaths, 20 died by drowning, 19 by falling, 17 due to cloudbursts, eight from flash floods, and six in landslides.
Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain cautious, especially in landslide-prone and riverbank areas, as the monsoon continues to bring extreme weather conditions.
The weather department also predicted showers in several states for today, including in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Coastal Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
