West Bengal 2026 Assembly Elections: The 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal have been dominated by five key Ms, which are Muslim, Matua community, Mahila (women), Migrants, and the machinery which the BJP
has deployed this time in the state.
Although the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has framed this election battle, the emergence of five new Ms has marked a shift from Mamata’s old ‘maa, maati, manush’ pitch towards a broader electoral calculus.
The current chief minister has, for the past 15 years, sailed the elections on an emotional pitch which was built around three Ms – ‘maa, maati, and manush’.
However, the 2026 high-stakes assembly elections are seeing five Ms shaping the battle and replacing the three Ms. However, apart from these five Ms, Modi and Mamata remain the two crucial Ms which will determine the Bengal elections.
Mamata, who came to power in 2011 and ended the Left’s 34-year rule in the state, has always consolidated support among women and Muslim voters.
These women and Muslim voters-targetted constituencies have continued to shape electoral outcomes in favour of TMC over the past decade.
