Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spotlighted the newly signed India–European Union trade agreement as a breakthrough for both regions, calling it a source of “huge opportunities for crores of people
in India and Europe,” while inaugurating the latest edition of India Energy Week via video conferencing as the event began in Goa.
Referring to the pact, Modi said, “Just yesterday, a major agreement was signed between India and the European Union. This agreement has brought a huge opportunity for crores of people in India and Europe.” He added that the deal symbolised deeper global cooperation, remarking, “This has become an example of coordination between two of the world’s major economies.”
Addressing delegates and industry leaders gathered at the flagship energy summit, the Prime Minister projected confidence about India’s future in refining and downstream capacity. “Soon, we will be number one in the world in the refining sector,” Modi said, underlining the government’s push to expand infrastructure, upgrade technology, and strengthen India’s role in global fuel supply chains.
Welcoming participants to Goa, Modi noted the growing international stature of the forum. “In this new edition of Energy Week, representatives from nearly one hundred and fifty countries around the world have gathered in Goa today. You all have come to India to discuss energy security and a sustainable future. I welcome and congratulate all of you,” he told the audience.
He said India Energy Week had quickly evolved into a major platform for dialogue and collaboration in the energy sector. “India Energy Week has rapidly emerged as a global platform for dialogue and action in the energy sector,” Modi said, describing India as a destination of “immense opportunities for the energy industry.”
Pointing to India’s macroeconomic trajectory, he added, “As the fastest-growing major economy in the world, our demand for energy products continues to rise steadily. Moreover, India offers some of the best opportunities to meet the world’s growing energy requirements.”
Modi also highlighted India’s expanding footprint in petroleum exports, noting that the country now supplies refined products to more than 150 nations. “We are now among the top exporters of petroleum products, supplying to more than 150 countries worldwide. This capability positions India as a valuable partner for your energy needs,” he said.
Calling for deeper engagement with global companies and governments, the Prime Minister stressed that the summit offered the right setting to build future alliances. “Therefore, India Energy Week serves as the ideal platform to explore partnerships and collaborations in the sector,” he added.
India Energy Week is expected to feature discussions on energy security, refining capacity, clean-energy transitions, and long-term strategies to balance economic growth with sustainability, as policymakers and industry executives from across the world converge in Goa.
