Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t stop smiling at Lamine Yamal’s witty one-liner at the Global Soccer Awards in the UAE on Sunday. Barcelona’s teenage winger and already one of the best players in the world,
Yamal was presented the Maradona Awards for the Best goalscorer and the Best forward of the year.
In his speech to collect the award, Yamal was asked an intriguing and slightly layered question by the host. “Who are you? What do you want people to know about you?” she said. Yamal replied in his native Spanish, saying, “I want people to know that at home my mom is the boss”.
The cameras panned to Ronaldo immediately. Check his reaction here:

Yamal was also quizzed about his comparisons with Ronaldo, who was a similar talent at his age. Afterall, though Yamal wears the 10 at Barcelona, a living symbol of Ronaldo’s legendary rival, Lionel Messi, his drive and wing-play often draw similarities with the former Real Madrid star.
“In the end, it’s best not to compare yourself to anyone. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo did what they did because they wanted to be themselves and not compare themselves to others. I want to build my own path,” Yamal said.
Ronaldo picked up two awards at the event, named the Best Middle Eastern Player as well as the Top Goalscorer of All Time.
“It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated,” CR7 said after receiving the award for the second consecutive year. “My passion is high and I want to continue. It doesn’t matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy playing football and I want to keep going. You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies and I want to reach that number (1,000 goals) that you all know. I will reach the number for sure, if no injuries,” he said.
