Veteran actor Nana Patekar died in Goa on Thursday morning following a cardiac arrest, with doctors unable to revive him despite prolonged resuscitation efforts. He was 75.
Patekar was at his residence
in Dona Paula when he suffered the cardiac arrest. A medical team was sent to his home after he complained of severe chest pain and found him unconscious. He was subsequently shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
Doctors continued attempts to restore his heartbeat for 45 minutes, but the actor remained in asystole throughout the resuscitation, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital.

“Despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived. A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, and a post-mortem will be conducted,” Dr Salkar said.
The actor was pronounced dead at around 5:20 am. The MLC process has been completed, while authorities are expected to conduct a post-mortem examination on Thursday.

Patekar was among the recognised faces of Hindi and Marathi cinema, with a film career that began with ‘Gaman’ in 1978. His performances in movies such as ‘Parinda’, ‘Prahar’, ‘Angaar’, ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Tiranga’, ‘Khamoshi’ and ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’ earned him a prominent place in Indian cinema.
Even in his later years, Patekar continued to take up acting assignments. His recent credits include ‘Housefull 5’, featuring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh.
He was also seen as a police officer in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘O’Romeo’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, and appeared in a cameo role in ‘Subedar’, led by Anil Kapoor and Radhika Madan.
