A cloudburst incident was reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu on Friday, according to the information provided by the Central Water Commission, Mohal.
So far, no reports of loss of life have been received.
According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kullu, the situation remains under control and is currently normal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a heavy rain alert for several districts of Himachal Pradesh. A yellow alert is also in place for several areas, including the Kangra,
Una, and Sirmaur districts.“On August 9, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Kangra, Una, and Sirmaur districts for heavy rainfall. Rainfall activity is expected to pick up again from the night of August 10 and continue through the morning of August 11,” Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the IMD Shimla Centre told ANI.
As many as 357 roads have been blocked, 599 power distribution transformers (DTRs) are out of service, and 177 water supply schemes have been affected due to heavy rain, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
According to the latest figures from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the state has reported a total of 208 monsoon-related deaths so far. Of these, 112 fatalities were caused by rain-induced disasters such as landslides, flash floods, and house collapses. The remaining 96 deaths occurred in road accidents, many of which are believed to have been worsened by poor visibility and slippery conditions during the monsoon.
Mandi district has been the worst affected in the state, reporting the highest number of road blockages and power outages — 206 and 204 respectively. The heavy rainfall has also severely impacted water supply systems in the region, with 105 schemes disrupted.
