The Ramayana team brought the music to Chennai on October 21, with Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and composer AR Rahman attending a grand event at the Chennai Trade Centre. Between the live performances and the excitement
around the film, there was plenty to talk about. And, of course, the lead stars gave us some fashion moments worth a closer look.
Ranbir showed up in a black embroidered bandhgala that brought a touch of traditional elegance to his formalwear, while Sai Pallavi picked a navy blue Banarasi silk saree with intricate zari work. There was a memorable moment off the fashion front, too: Ranbir won loud cheers from the crowd after speaking in Tamil.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Black Bandhgala Gets the Details Right
Ranbir Kapoor made a case for the bandhgala in a black jacket covered in intricate geometric embroidery. The tonal detailing gave the fabric plenty of texture without making the outfit feel overworked, while the structured shoulders and neat fit kept the silhouette sharp. A crisp white collar peeking out at the neckline offered a subtle break from the all-black palette, and matching trousers kept the look clean from top to bottom. He finished with a floral brooch on the chest and a watch at the wrist, letting the jacket’s craftsmanship do most of the talking.
Sai Pallavi’s Banarasi Saree Is a Celebration of Craft
Sai Pallavi opted for a navy blue Banarasi Katan silk saree that put traditional weaving in the spotlight. Gold-toned motifs dotted the body, while the broad zari border carried elaborate patterns that continued across the pallu. The contrast between the deep blue silk and the ornate metallic work gave the saree its richness, while the classic drape kept the look firmly rooted in tradition. Her matching elbow-length blouse, finished with a zari border on the sleeves, completed the ensemble without pulling focus from the weave.
The jewellery brought a warm touch to the look. Sai paired the saree with a gold choker set with red and green stones and edged with pearls, along with small jhumkis. Her hair fell in soft curls, with the front sections twisted back from a centre parting. Pink lipstick, a hint of blush and soft pink eyeshadow kept the makeup understated, while her red bindi added the finishing touch.
Both looks made a strong case for Indian craftsmanship, with the details doing the heavy lifting.
