A short video showcasing a Swiggy delivery rider as he gets emotional while sharing a meal with customers has gone viral online. Ever since surfacing on social media, the video has triggered a wide conversation
about the realities faced by gig workers. In the clip, the rider can be seen sitting down with customers who had ordered food through the app.
Wearing the familiar orange Swiggy uniform, he appears speechless as he begins eating the meal offered to him. The setting looks casual with a festive backdrop that reads “Let’s Party,” but the mood quickly turns emotional as the rider explains why the moment means so much to him.
When people invited the Swiggy delivery rider to sit and eat with them while delivering the parcel, he said, “I didn’t even realize that I was hungry.”

Wiping away his tears, the rider reveals that he had not eaten anything throughout the day. Speaking softly, he says, “Sir, I was hungry since morning. When I left home, I had a cup of tea. I didn’t even know… I am starving.” Talking about his responsibilities at home, he added, “I have a child… one son and one daughter.”
The customers in the video try to comfort him and ask him to focus on eating first. They also reportedly packed some food for him to take home. A text overlay the clip reads, “This is the truth of a middle-class father who forgets his own hunger to fill the stomach of his children.”
A Lot Of Mixed Reactions
The video has triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms. While many users appreciated the gesture of offering food to the rider, others questioned whether recording and sharing such a vulnerable moment was appropriate.
One user criticised the act of filming the interaction, writing, “And then they made a video and even posted that to show their magnanimity!!!!” Another commenter echoed a similar sentiment, asking, “It’s all fine but what’s the pressing need to video shoot him crying?”
Struggles Of Gig Workers
At the same time, several people defended the video. They argued that such videos reflect the struggles of workers in the gig economy. One user commented, “Sometimes such videos are required to soften the hearts of the privileged.. next time try and ask them for a glass of water to start with the least.”
Another social media user highlighted a broader opinion about labour and social narratives, writing, “Those who order food online must be compassionate. But you can show a man’s struggle without demeaning women. Millions of working women clean people’s houses & cook food in many houses to earn and feed their families. India runs on the hard labour of millions of men and women.”
The clip serves as a reminder that while we enjoy food delivered to our doorstep, some worker out there navigates long hours, financial pressure and personal responsibilities.
