Star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who is the vice-captain of Indian men’s cricket team in ODIs, is all set to be become India’s new T20I captain. Iyer, who last played a T20I match for the three-time
T20 World Cup winners in December 2023 against Australia, will replace Suryakumar Yadav. Surya, who led India to the T20 World Cup title win earlier this year, according to multiple reports, has been sacked as India’s T20I captain and unlikely to be picked for the future series.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, Iyer, who is the only captain in Indian Premier League to captain three teams to IPL final, will captain the Indian team in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.
It has also been reported that Mumbai Indians’ star Tilak Varma will be appointed as India’s new vice-captain in T20Is.
Spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel was India’s vice-captain in the T20 World Cup 2026 but he is all set to be ignored by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the leadership roles.
