Commuters between Greater Noida and Faridabad are set to see a major relief. At present, travellers must take a longer route via Noida and Delhi, where traffic congestion can stretch the journey to over
two hours during peak hours.
That is about to change as a four-lane road linking the two cities is nearing completion. Once the Manjhawali bridge over the Yamuna is ready, the travel time between Greater Noida and Faridabad will be cut to just 30 minutes.
Daily Traffic Woes For Commuters
Thousands of commuters travel between Greater Noida and Faridabad every day, but currently there is no direct route linking the two cities.
At present, travellers must pass through Delhi, Noida, Kalindi Kunj and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. These routes are longer and frequently clogged with traffic, especially during rush hours, making the commute slow and exhausting.
Manjhawali Bridge To Provide Direct Connectivity
To address this long-standing problem, a bridge is being constructed over the Yamuna river at Manjhawali. Although the project remained stalled for years, work has now picked up pace and is expected to be completed soon.
The new route via the Manjhawali bridge will provide direct connectivity between Greater Noida and Faridabad. It will significantly shorten travel time and help commuters avoid major traffic bottlenecks.
A Project Decades In The Making
The proposal to construct the Manjhawali bridge dates back to 1989. The foundation stone was laid at the time by then Union Minister Rajesh Pilot.
Despite the early start, the project faced repeated delays due to issues such as land acquisition. In 2014, Haryana completed construction on its side of the bridge, but work on the Uttar Pradesh side remained pending.
Now, the Uttar Pradesh government has accelerated efforts to complete its portion of the project.
Wider Benefits For NCR Connectivity
Once operational, the bridge will not only ease travel between Greater Noida and Faridabad but also improve connectivity between Noida and Ghaziabad.
In addition, commuters will be able to travel from Greater Noida to Gurugram via Faridabad using the new route, further enhancing regional mobility across the NCR.
Project Cost And Land Acquisition Challenges
The four-lane road project is estimated to cost around Rs 66 crore.
So far, approximately 70% of the required land has been acquired. However, acquiring the remaining land continues to pose a significant challenge. Negotiations with farmers over compensation rates are currently underway.
