A Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight from Pune had to return after it faced a mid-air technical glitch on Monday. The plane landed safely, and the passengers were evacuated, confirmed the airlines in an official
statement.
“SpiceJet Boeing 737 aircraft, bearing registration VT-SLG, was midway diverted back to Pune airport due to a technical glitch. The flight landed back under full emergency conditions after an hour of its takeoff for Delhi,” the source said.
According to the flight tracking website flightradar24.com, the flight was scheduled to depart at 6 AM from Pune and was to reach Delhi at 8:10 AM. The aircraft was 40 minutes delayed.
“SpiceJet flight SG 937 on September 1, operating from Pune to Delhi, returned to Pune shortly after takeoff. Following takeoff, the flap transit light illuminated, and the operating crew carried out all necessary checks in accordance with standard operating procedures,” the airline said.
It further stated that, as a precautionary measure, the pilots decided to return to Pune.
“The aircraft landed safely, and passengers deplaned normally. Affected passengers are being accommodated on alternate flights or offered full refunds,” it stated.
In a separate incident, an Indore-bound Air India flight returned to the city shortly after takeoff after the pilot received a “fire indication” in the right engine of the aircraft.
“Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on 31 August, air-returned to Delhi shortly after take-off, as the cockpit crew received a fire indication for the right engine. Following standard procedure, the cockpit crew elected to shut down the engine and returned to Delhi where the flight landed safely,” the airline spokesperson said.
“The aircraft has been grounded for inspection, and passengers are being transferred to an alternative aircraft which will operate the flight to Indore shortly. The regulator has been duly informed of the incident. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew are our top priority,” it added.
