Delhi-NCR woke up to a noticeable change in weather on Friday, October 30, after hours of overnight rain left roads wet, temperatures lower and a distinct chill in the air. The spell of showers has raised
the prospect of an early winter-like feel across the national capital and neighbouring cities, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts more rain and thunderstorms before conditions begin to improve.
The rainfall has also coincided with a welcome improvement in Delhi’s air quality. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI), which remained above 200 in the poor category on Wednesday and Thursday, dropped to 133 in the moderate category at 4 am on Friday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
However, the weather outlook extends well beyond the national capital. Several parts of central and eastern India face the possibility of intense rainfall, while southern states are expected to see increased precipitation from early November.

Late-night visuals from prominent locations, including Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and the Jamia Millia Islamia area, showed steady rainfall and dark clouds over the city.
The change was felt across the wider National Capital Region (NCR), where the rain brought a noticeable dip in temperatures and a sharper chill to the air.

Light to moderate showers are forecast during the day, while isolated heavy rainfall is possible at night. Residents should remain alert to changing conditions, particularly during thunderstorms and periods of intense rain.

Although the rain is expected to ease, residents may continue to experience cooler conditions following the overnight showers. Commuters should also account for wet roads and reduced visibility during periods of rain.
Delhi AQI Improves To 133 After Two Days In Poor Category
The rainfall has coincided with a marked improvement in Delhi’s air quality. The city’s AQI fell to 133 at 4 am on Friday, according to CPCB data, moving into the moderate category after remaining above 200 on Wednesday and Thursday.
Under India’s AQI classification, readings between 101 and 200 fall in the moderate category, while readings between 201 and 300 are classified as poor. An AQI of 133 represents an improvement over the previous two days, although pollution may still affect sensitive individuals. Children, older people and those with respiratory or heart conditions should monitor air-quality updates and take precautions if they experience discomfort.
The latest reading is a snapshot of conditions at 4 am on Friday. Air quality can vary by location and change throughout the day, so residents should check updated CPCB readings before planning outdoor activities.
IMD Heavy Rain Alert: North Bihar, Chhattisgarh And Odisha On Watch
While Delhi-NCR is expected to see more stable weather from November 1, several states across central and eastern India remain vulnerable to intense rainfall.
The IMD has warned that a remnant cyclonic circulation could trigger heavy to extremely heavy showers in parts of the region. North Bihar is likely to receive isolated extremely heavy rainfall on October 30, with similar intense conditions possible in parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also forecast over Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and East Uttar Pradesh.
The weather department has issued a low-to-moderate flash flood risk alert until October 30 for vulnerable watersheds in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh.
Residents in the affected areas should avoid walking or driving through flooded roads, stay away from swollen streams and drainage channels, and follow local administration advisories. People living in low-lying areas should remain alert to the possibility of waterlogging and sudden rises in water levels.
South India Rain Forecast
Rainfall activity is expected to increase across parts of southern India from early November as a weather system over the Bay of Bengal approaches the region.
Scattered showers may continue towards the end of October, followed by more widespread rainfall between November 2 and 4 across Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD has forecast isolated very heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2 and 3. These areas could experience intense downpours, raising the risk of localised flooding and travel disruption.
Telangana may also see thunderstorms and thundersqualls accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph.
Residents in these states should monitor local forecasts, secure loose outdoor objects before strong winds develop and exercise caution while travelling during thunderstorms. People in flood-prone locations should follow official warnings and avoid crossing waterlogged roads.
Delhi-NCR Weather To Improve As Rain Shifts Focus To Other States
Delhi-NCR is expected to move towards clearer skies after Friday’s rain, with partly cloudy conditions forecast on October 31 and mainly clear weather expected from November 1. The improvement in the capital’s AQI to 133 has also offered some relief after two days of poor air quality. However, residents should continue monitoring pollution levels as readings may fluctuate.
Meanwhile, the broader weather outlook remains unsettled, with heavy rainfall risks across parts of central and eastern India and a fresh spell of widespread rain expected in southern states from November 2.
For now, Delhi-NCR residents can expect a cooler end to October, while people in the states under rainfall alerts should remain prepared for possible flooding, thunderstorms and travel disruption.
