If you remember Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt’s cameo appearances in Karan Johar’s 2016 blockbuster Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, let us tell you there was another contribution from another Bollywood actress that
went unnoticed. It was Neha Dhupia, who lent her voice to a reporter interviewing Ranbir Kapoor’s character Ayan. She never appeared on screen, though.
Now, Neha has revealed how she landed the part and also explained why she prefers not to leverage friendships for work.
Neha Dhupia On Landing A Role In Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
In an interview with SCREEN Spotlight, Neha was asked if Lust Stories was her first project with Karan Johar. She replied joyfully, “Yeah. Safe to say I was a lucky charm.”
When asked how she got the role, she recalled, “I called him once, twice, thrice for my podcast, and he heard my voice so many times. I think he just got fed up with me constantly reappearing on it, and then he asked me to come and do this voiceover.”
She also shared a funny remark from Sanjay Kapoor that left her in splits: “I still remember Sanjay Kapoor sitting over there cracking a joke, ‘Tere picture ne toh 100 crore kar liye,’ and I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He said, ‘Tu haii na usme voiceover mein.’ It was funny and hurtful, but not really hurtful, just funny.”

Neha Dhupia On Not Exploiting Friendships for Work
When asked if she would have asked Karan Johar for an on-screen role the next day, she explained, “No, I actually have some great friendships in this business, and I think they are great because I never exploit them for professional gain. If there’s something I’m fit for, or my friends know I could fit, they reach out, or I do. But it’s not like a daily call saying, ‘Aaj kya ho raha hai? Aaj main kahan cast hoon…’ None of that happens between us.”
Work Front
On the professional front, Neha has been part of two popular recent projects. She played a therapist in Perfect Family and later starred in Single Papa, where she essayed the role of an adoption agency officer.
