Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana finally has a release date. The makers have announced that the first part of the mythological epic, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, will hit theatres worldwide on
November 6, 2026, just ahead of the Diwali weekend.
When is Ramayana releasing and why it means so much to Ranbir Kapoor
The release date also carries personal meaning for Ranbir Kapoor. The film will hit cinemas on his daughter Raha’s birthday. Raha Kapoor was born to Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor on November 6, 2022.
The announcement came on Wednesday after Sony Pictures unveiled the English trailer of Ramayana on its official X handle, confirming the theatrical release of the film’s first chapter. Produced by Namit Malhotra, the project has been planned as a two-part saga, with the second instalment expected around Diwali 2027. The makers are yet to reveal an exact release date for Part 2.
Ranbir had earlier shared that one of the moments he was looking forward to the most was watching Ramayana with his daughter in a theatre.
During a fan Q&A session at the San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the actor said, “I’m very excited to take my daughter to the film. It is going to be her first film on the big screen.”
The film has generated significant anticipation ever since its first trailer was released in July.
Ramayana Trailer And Cast
Ramayana trailer introduces Yash as Ravana, who declares himself the ruler of all three worlds before unleashing destruction. To restore balance, Lord Vishnu takes the avatar of Ram. Ranbir Kapoor is then introduced as Lord Ram, protecting his people before marrying Sita, played by Sai Pallavi. The trailer follows the familiar arc of the epic as Ram is sent into exile for 14 years. Sita and Lakshman, played by Ravie Dubey, accompany him into the forest, where Ravana abducts Sita, setting the stage for the battle between good and evil.
The scale of the film, its star cast and its visual ambition have made Ramayana one of the most anticipated Indian releases of 2026. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, the film also features Ravie Dubey in a key role.
With the first chapter now locked for a November 6, 2026 release, audiences will finally get to watch Nitesh Tiwari’s retelling of the epic on the big screen, while the second part is expected to follow during the Diwali season in 2027.
