Vir Das, who is all set to make his directorial debut with Aamir Khan Productions’ upcoming film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, has shared an interesting behind-the-scenes anecdote from the film, revealing
how actor Imran Khan came on board most unexpectedly. Vir revealed how a simple message turned into an exciting, creative opportunity that eventually shaped a key character in the film.
While Vir had previously spoken about how Imran Khan came on board, the comedian has now taken to social media to share a text exchange with the actor. Vir wrote on Instagram, “True story! We thought of the maddest thing and made Imran do it in #HappyPatel. January 16th, you get to see him, and I can’t wait! This is the actual screenshot from Feb 2024.”

The screenshot revealed that Imran had messaged Vir in 2024 saying, “Hey, been hearing good stuff about the film you’re making! Any place I could cameo, you think?” Vir Das responded, “Are you kidding me???? ABSOLUTELY!!! Let me find something cool. I’m going to make sure it’s insane and fun.”
Imran replied, “Sounds like fun. I’d love to be a part of it.” Vir texted back saying, “Done. Let me design something cool and come at you in a few days. If we’re doing something, it’s gotta be pop and funny as f**k.”
What followed was a collaborative process driven by instinct and trust. Previously, Vir shared that once Imran expressed interest, he felt compelled to do justice to the actor’s willingness to step back into a film set.
The trailer of Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos takes the fun up a level. It’s filled with humour and quirky moments that hint at a light, entertaining film. Vir Das, both directing and acting, brings his signature comedy style, adding energy, charm, and a youthful feel that builds excitement for the release.
Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Happy Patel is directed by Vir Das, also stars Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and Mithila Palkar in pivotal roles, and is slated to release in theatres on 16th January 2026.
