Lucknow is set to get a significant boost in urban connectivity as the Green Corridor project is extended up to Sultanpur Road, promising relief to nearly 10 lakh residents grappling with daily congestion.
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will construct a new four-lane stretch, approximately 1.8 kilometres long, linking army land to Mari Mata Temple. The road forms a key component of the third phase of the Green Corridor, currently under development between Pipraghat and Shaheed Path.
Once completed, the extension is expected to streamline travel for residents of Gomtinagar Extension, offering seamless access to Arjunganj and Sultanpur Road. It will also improve connectivity to key locations such as the Police Headquarters, Omax City, and Imar Township.
LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing works and directed officials to expedite progress. He noted that integrating Sultanpur Road with the Green Corridor would significantly enhance the corridor’s overall utility and effectiveness.
The project, estimated to cost around Rs 33 crore, is also expected to benefit commuters from densely populated areas including Khadra, Sitapur Road, Chowk, Husainabad, and Basant Kunj, where traffic congestion remains a persistent issue. Officials say the new link, combined with the broader corridor, will help decongest roads and cut travel time.
Work on roads, flyovers, and bridges under the third phase has been accelerated, with contractors already finalised through the tendering process. Engineers have been instructed to commence construction at the earliest.
In a parallel push to strengthen the corridor’s efficiency, authorities have set a June 15 deadline for the completion of a 1.5-kilometre road overbridge between Paik Pul and Daliganj. The necessary no-objection certificate from the Railways has been secured.
Kumar stressed timely completion of the entire project, underlining its importance in improving mobility and easing pressure on the city’s road network. Once operational, the expanded Green Corridor is expected to play a crucial role in linking Lucknow’s eastern and southern regions while offering commuters a faster, more efficient transit route.
