Police said the car was being driven by Atharva Ramesh Kawade (26), a student at the MIT college, who had come to the society to drop off a friend.
According to investigators, Kawade was returning after dropping his friend when his vehicle hit the child with force.
CCTV visuals show the car knocking Nishkarsh down, after which both wheels reportedly ran over him. The boy suffered a severe head injury and lost consciousness on the spot.
Residents rushed to the scene as the driver stopped the car and stepped out. Nishkarsh was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.
Police have registered a case against the driver at the local police station and are examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings, officials said.
The incident has renewed concerns over reckless driving inside residential societies and the lack of speed control measures in gated communities.
