Malaika Arora has opened up about being a part of item songs in the film industry. In a recent interview, the diva defended her choice of being part of such songs and clarified that she is not apologetic
about it. Malaikaexplained that dance is an ‘expression’ and that she feels amazing about it.
“Why do I need to tone it down or be apologetic about it? I mean, you get trolled for things, and many people say different things – but I don’t understand what the big deal is. Dance is an expression, enjoyed in its true glory and its true form. I feel truly blessed that I am able to do all this at 52; I must be doing something right,” Malaika said on The Namrata Zakaria Show on YouTube.
“It is very, very empowering. It makes me feel amazing. As I have said before, I think that if women out there take it as an example or view it as something empowering or something for them that makes them feel good, then it’s a job well done,” she added.
Over the years, Malaika Arora has been a part of several item songs, including Chaiyya Chaiyya, Maahi Ve, Kaal Dhamaal, Munni Badnaam Hui and Anarkali Disco Chali.
In November 2025, Malaika was also brutally trolled for her music video with Honey Singh, titled Chillgum. However, back then, she defended being a part of the music video and told IANS, “Working on Chillgum was an absolute blast – it’s bold, full of attitude, and pure fun. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s energy is so infectious that you can’t help but match his vibe when you’re on set.”
“This song has that perfect mix of glamour, groove, and madness – the kind that instantly lifts your mood. It let me explore a more playful, carefree side on screen, and I think audiences are going to feel that energy too,’” she added.
