The bag contained nearly 400 grams of gold jewellery as well as several envelopes of ‘shagun’ (cash gifts), according to Dainik Bhaskar.
The total cost of the items stolen, including cash, is estimated around Rs 1 crore.
The bride’s father informed officials that the incident took place when all the rituals were concluded. For the ceremony, the bride’s family came from Amritsar.
At first, the bride’s father was holding the bag containing the gold jewellery and cash. He later put the bag on a chair for a brief moment. This is when the suspect seized the opportunity and managed to steal the valuables.
After realising that the bag was missing, the family members complained to the resort’s manager and asked them to review the security footage. The CCTV footage later showed a youngster dressed in the waiter’s uniform entering the venue and leaving the venue with the bag in his hand.
As per The Tribune, Sadar Police Station SHO Jagdev Singh later arrived at the spot to lead the investigation in the matter.
Family Questions Security Protocols
Post the alleged theft, the family members have raised serious questions over security issues at the resort. They asked the management how an unidentified individual was allowed to enter the venue where the private ceremony was taking place.
The family is said to have warned them of taking legal action if they are not compensated for the financial loss. Further investigation in the matter is currently underway.
