The announcement of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 results 2026 has sparked a wave of reactions from students on social media, with many alleging that the newly implemented Onscreen
Marking System (OSM) and AI-assisted evaluation may have resulted in unexpectedly low scores.
CBSE declared the Class 12 results on May 13, reporting an overall pass percentage of 85.20 per cent. This reflects a decline from last year’s 88.39 per cent — a drop of 3.19 percentage points.
Soon after the results were released, numerous students took to microblogging platform X to voice their disappointment and frustration over their marks. Many blamed the newly introduced digital evaluation process that may have failed to properly assess lengthy answers, diagrams, and step-wise markings.
This is the state of your paper checking process? @cbseindia29 either check everyone’s papers again or enable free rechecking. This is so inhumane that you all are playing with students future. #CBSESCAM #osmfailed #cbse pic.twitter.com/eUAL1WDe2S

Meanwhile, several students specifically questioned the effectiveness of the OSM system, alleging that speed-based digital checking could have impacted accuracy in assessment.
Thousands of CBSE Class 12 students are feeling devastated after unexpected low marks. If on-screen copy checking is missing steps, diagrams, or lengthy answers because of speed-based evaluation, then this is not just a “technical process” it directly impacts student #OSMfailed

#OSMfailed Your OSM system FAILED CBSE. I got 27 in Bio. How can someone score so low in a subject like Biology. If you genuinely care about the students, re-evaluate the answer sheets manually. You’ve to make it affordable too. Please don’t let someone in trauma for life time.

Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy while announcing the result had acknowledged that the revised assessment scheme may have reflected in this year’s scores. He stated that the declaration of results itself was the most important aspect and noted that girls had once again outperformed boys in the examination. “Some difference in the percentage of marks this time, but that is quite natural because this time the scheme for assessment has changed. So, it shows in the results,” he said.
