Pakistan has reportedly stepped up military assistance to Saudi Arabia, sending fresh consignments of defence equipment and air defence systems, along with additional troop deployments, as Riyadh faces
growing security threats amid regional tensions.
A top security source told CNN-News that Islamabad is continuing to supply military equipment to the kingdom under the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) signed by the two countries in September 2025. The source claimed that the latest consignments include air defence systems, missiles, rockets and indigenous drones intended to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s ability to protect key cities and strategic installations.
The source also claimed that Pakistani troops were being deployed to Saudi Arabia in small numbers on a continuing basis, while Pakistan Air Force transport aircraft and military cargo flights were reportedly involved in the movement of equipment.
Pakistan Steps Up Military Assistance To Saudi Arabia
The reported deployments come as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia move to implement their mutual defence commitments amid heightened regional security concerns, including threats attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement.
Under the SMDA, signed in September 2025, the two countries committed to treating aggression against either as aggression against both. The agreement formalised a longstanding defence partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh.
Pakistan has maintained a military presence in Saudi Arabia for decades, including personnel involved in training and other defence cooperation. However, the scale and operational details of its deployments have not been fully disclosed publicly.
The security source claimed that the latest assistance includes locally developed drones, rockets, missiles and air defence equipment. The systems are reportedly intended to bolster protection for Saudi cities and critical infrastructure against potential aerial threats.
The source further claimed that Pakistan Air Force transport aircraft and military cargo flights were being used to move defence equipment to Saudi Arabia. A PAF IL-78 aerial refuelling aircraft was also said to have entered Saudi airspace amid the reported deployments.
Saudi Arabia Faces Growing Regional Security Concerns
The reported assistance comes amid heightened concerns over threats to Saudi territory and strategic infrastructure from regional actors, including the Houthis in Yemen.
Pakistan has publicly reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security. Islamabad has also said its defence cooperation with Riyadh remains in place while stressing the importance of a negotiated political settlement in Yemen.
The military relationship has taken on added significance following the signing of the SMDA, which established a formal mutual-defence commitment between the two countries.
Financial Terms Of Defence Cooperation Remain Unclear
The security source claimed that Pakistan was providing military equipment and personnel in return for substantial financial compensation from Saudi Arabia. However, no figures or details of any payment arrangements were provided, and the alleged financial terms could not be independently verified.
The developments reveal the growing importance of the Pakistan-Saudi defence partnership as Riyadh seeks to strengthen its air defences and protect critical infrastructure amid regional instability.
