A 27-year-old French woman working at the French Consulate in Mumbai was allegedly molested late at night on 8 November 2025 in Bandra West. According to police, the woman was walking home when a scooter-borne
man approached her, touched her inappropriately, and immediately fled the scene.
Shocked by the incident, she proceeded straight to the Khar police station and filed a formal complaint, prompting a swift response from the authorities.
Police action
Mumbai Police launched an intensive search within hours of receiving the complaint. Officers reviewed footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras across Bandra and Dharavi to trace the movements of the suspect.
By Saturday night, less than 24 hours after the complaint was filed, police arrested the accused, identified as 25-year-old scrap dealer Sunil Waghela from Dharavi. His scooter, believed to have been used during the incident, was seized as part of the investigation.
Charges
According to officials at Khar police station, Waghela has been booked under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty. Police are currently examining his past record to determine whether he has been involved in similar offences previously.
