The Delhi government has invited startups, technology firms, and research institutions to pitch artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for use across public services, health, transport and urban planning.
In an Expression of Interest (EoI), issued on Tuesday, the Department of Information Technology has asked technology companies, startups, academic institutions, research organisations, and industry bodies to showcase their AI-based commercially available solutions relevant to public service delivery and governance, with at least one successful domestic or international implementation.
Selected organisations may be invited to present and demonstrate their AI solutions as part of an AI innovation showcase being organised by the department.
The indicative areas include smart governance and public service delivery, urban planning and smart cities, environment and air quality monitoring, health and digital health, transport and mobility, education, and other relevant sectors.
“The objective of this initiative is to identify innovative AI solutions that can potentially be adopted or piloted across departments of the Government of NCT of Delhi,” the government stated.
Based on submissions received, the government may call organisations to present their AI solutions and demonstrate live products and use cases.
“The Department may facilitate interaction with relevant government departments to explore potential pilot deployments or future adoption,” it stated.
The government has also stated that the EoI is only for identifying and showcasing AI-based solutions relevant to government service delivery.
The EoI was issued on May 12 and the last date for submission will be June 1.
Last month, News18 had reported that the government is exploring an artificial intelligence-based road monitoring system that will detect potholes and debris and track construction activity in Delhi as part of efforts to improve maintenance of city roads.
The Public Works Department (PWD) is working on developing a centralised AI-enabled platform for aggregation and management of road-related complaints from multiple data sources for efficient tracking and resolution. The government has invited quotations for the development of the system.
Speaking with News18, a government official said AI is the need of the hour and the government wants to use it to enhance the public sector.
“The government is scouting market-ready AI tools that could eventually be piloted across departments, depending on the pitches we get,” the official added.
The move signals that Delhi’s use of AI may expand beyond isolated departmental projects to wider governance functions spanning civic infrastructure, healthcare, mobility and environmental monitoring.
