A mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach left at least 10 people dead and several others injured on Sunday, after two gunmen dressed in black opened fire on a crowd of nearly 1,000–2,000
attendees, according to local media reports.
More than 50 shots were fired as panic erupted across the beachfront, forcing people to flee or shelter indoors.
In a statement, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, said: “The scenes in Bondi are shocking and distressing. Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected.”
He further added that he has spoken to the AFP Commissioner and with the NSW Premier. “We are working with the NSW Police and will provide further updates as more information is confirmed. I urge people in the vicinity to follow information from the NSW Police,” he added.

New South Wales Police confirmed that two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, with one of the gunmen killed during an exchange of fire with officers.
The second shooter was wounded and arrested. Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area as the entire zone remains under lockdown and an active security operation continues.
In a statement posted on X, NSW Police said: “The police operation is ongoing and we continue to urge people to avoid the area… Anyone at the scene should take shelter.”
Videos circulating online captured scenes of chaos as crowds scattered, sirens blared, and emergency personnel rushed to treat the wounded. Emergency workers told AFP they had transported multiple victims to hospitals across Sydney.

Earlier footage from the scene and witness accounts published in The Jerusalem Post indicated that the shooting unfolded during a Hanukkah parade and community gathering at the beach.
According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government is monitoring the situation closely: “We urge people in the vicinity to follow information from NSW Police.”
The area remains sealed off as police investigate the motive and reconstruct the timeline of events. Authorities have warned the public to avoid Bondi Beach until further notice as the situation continues to develop.
