The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to unveil an ambitious and wide-ranging ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto) for the upcoming Assam assembly elections, blending big-ticket employment promises with cultural
messaging and welfare measures, sources have told CNN-News18.
The manifesto is expected to centre around job creation, with a fresh pledge of over two lakh government jobs, building on the party’s previous commitment of one lakh jobs, which it claims to have fulfilled.
In a significant push aimed at the youth, the BJP is also planning a financial assistance scheme ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for nearly 10 lakh educated youths, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and local enterprise.
Beyond jobs, the document is likely to emphasise free education provisions and propose a first-of-its-kind financial support mechanism for private sector teachers, a move that could resonate with a large section of the education workforce in the state.
Sources said the Sankalp Patra will also double down on the party’s hardline stance on land and identity, with a commitment to continue eviction drives to reclaim forest and indigenous lands—a politically significant issue in Assam.
At the same time, the BJP is expected to underline its cultural pitch, proposing world-class memorials and complexes dedicated to Assam’s saints and icons, signalling a continued focus on regional identity and heritage.
Tourism and local livelihoods are also set to feature prominently. The manifesto for the Assam polls is likely to include plans for high-end eco-tourism circuits and an expanded homestay scheme, aimed at boosting grassroots income and rural employment.
Party insiders describe the document as a “strategic blend of cultural protectionism and a tech-driven economic roadmap”, seeking to balance identity politics with development messaging.
The Sankalp Patra is expected to be formally released on March 31, with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the state chief likely to be present at the launch event.
The manifesto comes at a time when the BJP, led by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is seeking to retain power amid favourable projections in recent opinion polls and a strong organisational push on the ground.
With a mix of welfare promises, economic incentives, and identity-driven politics, the BJP’s Assam manifesto is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the narrative ahead of the high-stakes electoral contest.
