Kalki 2898 AD’s second part is one of the most anticipated films, and now the director of the film has opened up about the plans surrounding the next part. The director, in a recent conversation, has revealed
that the team is planning to kick-start regular shooting by mid-October, and the plan is to finish it by mid-2027.
Speaking to Variety India, the actor shared, “We’re starting regular shooting in mid-October, as we now have call sheets in place for all the artists. Earlier this year, we shot individual scenes featuring Kamal sir and Bachchan sir. We were waiting for Prabhas’ call sheet, and that’s now sorted. Hopefully, we will wrap the entire shoot by mid-next year and then move into post-production. Let’s finish the shoot first; once that is done, we can talk about the release date.”
The director further continued and said that the hope is that the audience will get to see the film on the big screen by 2028.
Nag Ashwin On Kalki’s National Award win
Kalki 2898 AD recently won two National Awards, one for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and another for Best Production Design for Nitin Zihani’s futuristic work on the film. Speaking about the same, Ashwin shared, “I’m truly honored by this recognition. With ‘Kalki’, we attempted something that many thought was impossible. It was not a niche sci-fi film. I wanted the story to be rooted in our culture and, most importantly, to reach the masses. The fact that it achieved that makes this award a fitting recognition of the enormous amount of time and effort the entire team put into the film.”
About Kalki 2898 AD
Kalki 2898 AD released in June 2024 and also stars Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in the lead. The film gained an overwhelming response from the audience and earned over Rs 1,000 crore at the worldwide box office. The biggest shock came to the audience when Vyjayanthi Movies announced on September 18, 2025, that Padukone would not return for the sequel. The announcement stated that Deepika is no longer a part of the project because a film like Kalki “deserves commitment.” If a report by Bollywood Hungama is to be believed, Sai Pallavi has been roped in to play Deepika’s part in Kalki 2.
