The national capital continues to juggle between smog and cold wave conditions as the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘poor’ category for a second consecutive day. Amid the inclement weather, various
airlines issued advisories for passengers, alerting them that flights could be delayed and urging them to be on the lookout for updates.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature could fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius across northwest India for the next four days, and in central and eastern parts for the next two days.
Delhi reels under ‘poor’ AQI
According to the data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI remained in the ‘poor’ category, with a reading of 286 on Tuesday, January 6. The AQI was recorded at 244 on Monday, January 5.
Meanwhile, 19 out of 40 air monitoring stations showed the ‘very poor’ category, with Anand Vihar reflecting the worst at 343, falling in the ‘very poor’ category.
The maximum temperature in the capital was recorded at 18.5 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees below average. The minimum temperature stood at 6.6 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees below the seasonal average.
Airlines issue advisories
In a post on ‘X’, IndiGo Airlines issued a fog advisory for passengers. As per the post, low visibility and fog was observed over cities including Delhi, Ranchi, Amritsar, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Guwahati, and Varanasi.
“We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly”, said the airline in the post.
“We request that you stay updated on your flight status via our website or app. Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support,” it added.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet Airlines also issued an advisory for its passengers in view of the inclement weather. In a post on ‘X’, the airlines said, “Due to bad weather in Dharamshala (DHM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected.”
It further appealed to the passengers to stay vigilant on the flight status.
All India weather forecast
The weatherman has predicted dense to very dense fog conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, till January 10, and in east Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh till January 8.
In addition, dense fog conditions are expected in isolated places of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand till January 8, west Uttar Pradesh till January 9, Chhattisgarh, parts of West Bengal and Odisha till January 7, Himachal Pradesh till January 10, and Bihar till January 12, said the IMD.
