Are Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborating on a new project together? The actress’ recent visit to the filmmakers’ office has set the rumour mills running. If it is true, then this will
be Kareena and SLB’s first ever collaboration after 25 years when they had a fallout over Devdas.
On September 8, Kareena Kapoor was snapped outside Bhansali’s office wearing a pastel blue suit. She did not stop to pose for the paps.
According to reports, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has approached Kareena for the female lead in his upcoming film. She will be starring opposite Tamil actor Dhanush if everything goes well. The film is expected to have a strong female character who will have an important role alongside Dhanush.
Kareena is reportedly interested in the film but has not signed it yet. Talks about her dates, fees and other details are still going on. The film is reportedly a mythological adventure set in a jungle. While the story has not been officially revealed, reports suggest that an elephant will play an important role in the film.
Bhansali will produce the film, while PS Mithran will direct it. The project is currently being written, with pre-production expected to begin later this year. Shooting is reportedly set to start in January 2027.
If Kareena signs the project, it would end one of Bollywood’s longest-discussed professional fallouts between her and SLB.
The reported fallout between Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali dates back to the early 2000s, when the actress was being considered for the role of Paro in Devdas. Kareena reportedly screen-tested for the part and even received a signing amount. However, the role eventually went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 2002 period drama.
Kareena later spoke about how upset she was over the incident. In an old Filmfare interview, she even said that she would never work with Bhansali. “I’ll never. What he did to me was wrong. He screen-tested me for Devdas, gave me a signing amount, then took someone else. That was wrong, it hurt especially because I was at the start of my career. It’s okay, because the day he dropped me, I signed Yaadein. Sanjay hurt me. Even if I have no work, I’ll never work with him,” Kareena had said.
Meanwhile, Kareena also has Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller Daayra in her kitty. She will be starring alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran.
