Hot dal is a delight in itself, but when paired with tikkad, the taste becomes simply unbeatable. Dal Tikkad is a traditional Rajasthani dish that is especially made in winter. It is tasty and nutritious,
especially when served with mixed dal. Here is the easy recipe.
Dal Tikkad Recipe (Rajasthani Style)
Ingredients:
For Dal:
Toor dal – 1 bowl
Masoor dal – 1 bowl
Chana dal – 1 bowl
Moong dal – 1 bowl
Urad dal – 1 bowl
Tomatoes – 3 (finely chopped)
Whole red chillies – 4
Whole coriander – 1 teaspoon
Cloves – 4
Black pepper – 4
Oil – ½ bowl
Ground red chilli – 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric – 1 teaspoon
Garam masala – 1 teaspoon
Salt – to taste
For Tikkad:
Wheat flour – 1 bowl
Gram flour – ½ bowl
Fennel – ½ teaspoon
Cumin – ½ teaspoon
Turmeric – ½ teaspoon
Salt – to taste
Oil – 2 teaspoons (for kneading)
Water – as needed
Method:
How To Make Dal:
Wash all the dals and put them in a cooker, cook for 4 whistles. Heat oil in a pan, add whole spices. Then add tomatoes and sauté. Add ground spices and mix the cooked dal into it. Mix the dal well and cook for a while.
How To Make Tikkad:
Mix flour and gram flour, add all dry spices and salt. Add oil and knead a stiff dough with water. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes. Make small balls and roll them out, cook on a griddle on low heat.
Serving Method:
Hot dal is best served with tikkad and can be accompanied by ghee or butter for added flavour.
