Former India cricketers Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan have expressed grief over the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, remembering the acclaimed performer for his enduring contribution to Indian cinema.
Patekar passed away at 5:20 am on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence.
Citing Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Department of Oncology at Manipal Hospital, news agency ANI reported that CPR was performed for 45 minutes, with Patekar remaining in asystole throughout the resuscitation attempt.
Rahane took to X to mourn the actor’s death and highlighted the lasting impact of his work across generations.
“Nana Patekar ji was a truly remarkable actor whose work has inspired and entertained generations. Very sad to hear about his passing. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Rahane was among several prominent names to remember Patekar following his death. Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan also paid tribute to the actor, describing him as an exceptional talent whose body of work would continue to influence audiences.

Patekar was a major presence in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, building a career that spanned several decades. He made his acting debut in the 1978 film ‘Gaman’ and later earned widespread recognition for his performances in movies including ‘Parinda,’ ‘Prahar,’ ‘Angaar,’ ‘Krantiveer,’ ‘Tiranga,’ ‘Khamoshi’ and ‘Ab Tak Chhappan,’ among others.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla also remembered Patekar, praising both his artistic legacy and his contribution to society.
“Deeply pained by the demise of veteran actor and an exceptionally compassionate human being, Shri Nana Patekar Ji. His remarkable acting prowess, versatility and powerful screen presence have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Beyond the world of films, his selfless commitment to social service and his efforts to transform lives have touched countless people. May his soul rest in eternal peace. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers,” he said.
Patekar remained active on screen in the later years of his career, appearing in a variety of projects. He featured in Housefull 5, which starred Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and others.
The 75-year-old actor also portrayed a police officer in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri. He additionally made a cameo appearance in Subedar, which stars Anil Kapoor and Radhika Madan.
